Old Friends Records, a new, alternative/indie rock label via RED distribution, has announced its very first signing with Huntington Beach, CA's Hellogoodbye. The band is currently in the studio with multi-Grammy Award winning producer Joe Chiccarelli (The Shins, The White Stripes, Strokes, My Morning Jacket, Jason Mraz), recording a new full-length studio album slated for an April 2013 release. In the meantime, on December 18th Old Friends Records will re-issue the band's second full-length studio album Would It Kill You? as a digital deluxe edition, featuring three live tracks from Daytrotter's Barnstormer Tour and the previously unreleased B-Side "Not Ever Coming Home." In addition, the band is set to play a special holiday show on November 29th at New York City's Webster Hall's Marlin Room, and fans can expect more dates to be announced as details of their forthcoming album are revealed.
Originally formed in 2001 by singer Forrest Kline, Hellogoodbye spent a couple of years playing West Coast and Southwest shows before releasing their self-titled debut EP in 2004.
It was around 2009 that word of a follow-up album started circulating. In the midst of an intensive touring schedule, the release of the new album stalled and in February 2010, the band parted ways with Drive-Thru Records. With a studio album completed and no label, the band saw an opportunity to release their sophomore effort Would It Kill You? on their own imprint, Wasted Summer, that November. The US release was followed by a March 2011 release in the UK and Europe.
Even with limited distribution, Would It Kill You? found its way onto the Billboard charts and earned the band praise in the press with USA Today describing the album as "A Killer Batch of Indie Pop" (3 1/2 Stars) and Billboard wrote that the new album "signals a change of tide for members of Hellogoodbye, separating the California natives from their electro-melodic roots and propelling them into a promising folk-pop future."
It only seems fitting that Old Friends Records will celebrate their first official signing with a reissue of Hellogoodbye's Would It Kill You? along with bonus material. The reissue is also set to be pressed as a limited edition marbled vinyl which will come bundled with a download of digital bonus tracks and a t-shirt, which will be sold via Hellogoodbye's brand new merch store, launching in January via Cinderblock.com.
