RAFIKI PROJECT

BIO:
The RAFIKI Project is a reggae/dub influenced quintet based out of San Antonio, Texas. Doubled in size since its inception in early 2007, TRP crosses boundaries while remaining faithful to its reggae roots. Soaring trumpet solos pierce through the thick walls of delayed synth, though, never to overwhelm the smooth airtight guitar, bass, and drum combination. Pungent vocals and their harmonious counterparts bounce off one another blending authentically with an interconnectedness that seems involuntary. Conscious efforts to create innovative sounds without insult to the genre itself allow The Project to stand out. In 2010 alone, The Rafiki Project has had multiple radio appearances(KSYM 90.1 San Antonio and KZFM 95.5 Corpus Christi), a review in the San Antonio Current, took part in SAFAM's "live sessions", headlined The Portland Windfest, and most recently, had a cover story in BACKBEAT magazine. TRP's newest album "Wonderful Flight" is available on itunes, amazon, lala, and most other online music retailers. "Drifts between Top 40 catchiness and tweaked-out retro-futuristic reggae that might be called space jam, if Michael Jordan were never born. Watching it played live is like seeing a remix created in real time." - Jeremy Martin (San Antonio Current) "There are songs that make you want to dance and songs that let you sit and vibe, but either way you have it, the groove is contagious." - Eric Washburn (BACKBEAT Magazine) For live streaming or just to check out what they are up to go to www.therafikiproject.com or www.myspace.com/therafikiproject and stream their entire album...Salaam
