The Recording Academy has released the following statement:
“Two-time GRAMMY® Award winner and Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Bob Babbitt was a remarkable bass player and member of Motown’s legendary Funk Brothers. A ‘musician’s musician,’ his signature bass lines infused some of the most memorable R&B and soul hits, and his versatility landed him work in other genres including pop, jazz, country and gospel. His work left an indelible mark on the famed Motown sound, and he set a soul standard for generations of bassists. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends, and all who continue to groove to his music.”
