Country artist Adrianna Freeman's newest single "Just A Girl" is a love song, though not the romantic kind. The ballad and accompanying music video paint a portrait of a young girl desperately needing to be loved, but instead being raised by an alcoholic mother, and not knowing her father. It is, unfortunately, a subject that too many people can relate to, in some way, according to Freeman.

"Half of American children grow up in broken homes, and I believe it is detrimental to our country," Freeman said. "The family is the stepping stone to how a child turns out. What will be the state of our world, with so many children not getting the proper guidance? We see it in high school dropout rates, crime, substance abuse and teen pregnancy."

The video for "Just A Girl," which is now premiering on CMT.com, depicts a young girl struggling to care for her mother who is "passed out on the sofa, with a bottle by her head." There are disturbing glimpses of a fractured home life, as seen through the girl's eyes, interspersed with images of Freeman, dressed in white, suggestive of a guardian angel. The video was produced by film students at Florida State University.

"When I first heard the song, I was inspired," said director Samuel Curtis. "I heard a story within, and knew that it needed to be seen and heard. It hit a personal chord with me. I was thinking of my little sister during the development and production of this project."

"Just A Girl" is Freeman's first single to be released to both secular and inspirational country radio. Although the song does not have an overtly religious theme, Freeman believes it offers a hopeful message that will resonate with people of all faiths. Recently, the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) spent a day with Freeman, shooting a story about the song that is expected to air nationwide at the end of June.

"I think God watches over children and gives them a guardian angel, but obviously bad things can still happen," she said. "This song brings awareness that there are children and parents out there who need our prayers and support."

Written by Bart Butler and Karyn Rochelle, "Just A Girl" is the first single to be released on Freeman's independent record label, AFM Entertainment. It will be included on a new EP, to be released later this year. Meanwhile, Freeman is continuing to promote her current debut album, "Either You Do or You Don't," which was produced by Teddy Gentry of Alabama.
