Mexican superstar Jenni Rivera died in a plane crash in Mexico on Sunday, according to Eonline.com. The singer was reported missing earlier in the day after her plane reportedly lost contact with air traffic controllers just minutes after taking off from an airport in Monterrey. On board along with Rivera was her publicist, Arturo Rivera, her stylist Jorge Sanchez, her makeup artist Jacobo Llenares and her attorney Mario Macias.

Later in the day, Mexican officials recovered wreckage of a small plane with no apparent survivors. Gerardo Ruiz Esparza, Mexico's transportation and communication minister revvealed on Mexican television that, "everything points toward it being the plane" that carried Rivera and six other passengers

Speaking on the tragedy, Rivera's brother commented to Telemundo, "She never gave up and she was good to everyone," and added that although the family is devastated, "Life is like that. We live and we die. We may be sad, but when God has the last word for all of us in our last days, it's time to go. And this was the way Jenni had to go."

Rivera had just performed a concert in Monterre. Following the appearance, the singer held a press conference in which she spoke of her recent divorce plans to former Major League Baseball pitcher Esteban Loaiza. "I can't get caught up in the negative because that destroys you. Perhaps trying to move away from my problems and focus on the positive is the best I can do. I am a woman like any other and ugly things happen to me like any other woman," she said. "The number of times I have fallen down is the number of times I have gotten up."

Celebrities immediately took to Twitter to share their thoughts and condolences on the tragic news. Latin superstar Ricky Martin, currently starring in the role of 'Che' in the Broadway revival of 'Evita', tweeted in Spanish, “This is sad. I’m a bit in shock. Much peace to her family.”
