PRINCE to Be Honored at Carnegie Hall Benefit Concert

The New York Times Artsbeatblog reports that a concert to be held at New York City's Carnegie Hall will pay tribute to the songs of recording artist Prince. The funds raised from the event will benefit music education. Artists Talib Kweli, The Roots and The Blind Boys Of Alabama will be featured in the concert.

The March 7 event will once again be produced by City Winery founder Michael Dorf. Over the past eight years, the series has raised more than $700,000 for programs like The Church Street School of Music, Young Audiences New York, Music Unites and the Pinwheel Project. This year's beneficiaries include the American Symphony Orchestra's Music Notes, Little Kids Rock and the Center for Arts Education. In a statement, Dorf commented, "Prince is one of the most prolific songwriters in my collection, and he makes my Top 10 when I think about the artists who have truly shaped modern music."

In the past, the concert has honored such big names as the Rolling Stones, the Who, R.E.M., Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Neil Young and Bob Dylan.

Other entertainers who will participate include Booker T., Living Colour, Devotchka and Madeleine Peyroux. The Roots, led by the drummer Questlove, will host the show. Tickets are available at Carnegie Hall's box office and online.
