The Iridium continues its eclectic, genre-bending bookings in July, inviting Wilco's Nels Cline to sit in with The Les Paul Trio, hosting Soulive's Eric Krasno, presenting songwriting icon Chip Taylor's 1650 Broadway homecoming, and more. Check out some of the highlights for the month:
Gary Lucas 7/2-3 - A world class guitar hero, Grammy-nominated songwriter and composer, and international recording artist with over 20 acclaimed solo albums to date, former Captain Beefheart and Jeff Buckely collaborator Gary Lucas performs two nights at The Iridium, first solo with his special guest Qian Yi (7/2), and then with his Gods and Monsters trio (7/3).
Chip Taylor 7/7 - Legendary songwriter Chip Taylor ("Wild Thing," "Angel of the Morning") returns to where it all began: 1650 Broadway. The current site of The Iridium was once a songwriting "factory," perhaps more productive than the famed Brill Building, where Taylor and other legends wrote their signature songs.
Terry Bozzio Power Trio w/ Alex Machacek & Doug Lunn 7/8-10 - Bozzio may be best known for his work with Missing Persons and Frank Zappa, but he also joined Mick Jagger and Jeff Beck to make the video "Throwaway," and teamed up with Beck & keyboardist Tony Hymas to co-write/produce and perform on the Grammy Award winning album 'Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop.'
Nels Cline w/ The Les Paul Trio 7/11 - The Wilco guitarist sits in with Les Paul's Trio for another installment of The Iridium's trademark Les Paul Mondays. Jazz Times calls him "The World's Most Dangerous Guitarist."
The Hendrix Project 7/15 - Acclaimed jazz artists George Colligan, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Jerome Harris, & Donald Edwards celebrate Jimi Hendrix's profound legacy of innovation, reinterpreting his music as jazz in their debut performance as The Hendrix Project.
