Mozart's Violin & Viola Come to U.S. for First Time at Boston Early Music Festival

Mozart's own violin and viola come to the United States for the first time at the June 2013 Boston Early Music Festival in collaboration with the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation. Not only will classical music lovers have a chance to view Mozart's own instruments for themselves, they will be able to hear the instruments in a rare performance featuring some of the world's finest instrumentalists.

On Monday, June 10 at 8pm in NEC's Jordan Hall, the BEMF Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation Quartet will perform a concert of masterpieces by Mozart featuring the great composer's very own violin and viola. Playing Mozart's violin will be classical music virtuoso Amandine Beyer, hailed as a "wonderfully expressive and sensitive violinist" (The Strad). Beloved violist in the BEMF Orchestra, Miloš Valent will play Mozart's viola. Superstar keyboardist and Mozart interpreter Kristian Bezuidenhout joins the quartet on fortepiano and completing the BEMF Salzburg Mozarteum Quartet is leading clarinetist, Eric Hoeprich. The concert will be preceded by a press conference at 5:30pm to discuss the collaboration between BEMF and the Mozarteum at Williams Hall at New England Conservatory.

In addition to the performance, Mozart's own violin and viola will be on display as part of the opening day of the world famous BEMF Exhibition on Wednesday, June 12 at the Revere Hotel, Boston. These storied instruments have been painstakingly preserved and are exhibited courtesy of the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation for the first three hours of the Exhibition, from 10am to 1pm.
