Charlotte, NC's Matrimony have signed with Columbia Records and are currently recording their major label debut with producer Jay Joyce (Emmylou Harris, The Wallflowers), which is slated for release in 2013. The band's song "Obey Your Guns" made its national debut in a new Chevy Malibu TV spot that first premiered during the World Series. "Obey Your Guns" is available for purchase on iTunes, and will appear on Matrimony's forthcoming release. Formed in 2009 as a husband and wife duo, Ashlee Hardee Brown and Jimmy Brown have since added family members Jordan Hardee and CJ Hardee to round out Matrimony's lineup. The group blend Belfast-transplant Jimmy's Irish-folk roots with the Hardees' Americana-rock influences to create a vibrant and modern sound all their own. Local press have been early supporters of the band and their self-released EP, with the Charlotte Observer calling them "one of the area's best new bands... features male-female vocals, acoustic strings (banjo, violin, mandolin, bouzouki), backing shouts and keyboards in a stew that occasionally echoes the Arcade Fire's musical recipe." The band have toured across the country, sharing the stage with acts including Mumford & Sons, Gillian Welch, Modest Mouse, Langhorne Slim and Nathaniel Rateliff. While finishing work on the new album, the band will play a handful of shows close to home, including a slot opening for Passion Pit in Wilmington, NC later this month.
