MTV Latin America Presents an MTV Chiuku to Dj Avicii

MTV Latin America, IDB Youth and Fundacion DJ recognized Swedish musical producer and DJ, Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii, for his humanitarian work through his House of Hunger tour, which raised one million dollars benefiting Feeding America. The tour had a total of 26 concerts in the United Stated during the month of January of the present year.

As part of MTV’s Agents of Change initiative, MTV created the Chiuku award, which recognizes celebrities’ work who use their influence to contribute and develop social projects. Avicii was awarded MTV Chiuku last Wednesday, November 7th, in a concert presented by Istmo Music at the International Fairs and Convention Center (CIFCO) in San Salvador, El Salvador. The award was presented by Mario Cader-Frech, VP of Public Affairs and Corporate Responsibility for MTV Latin America.

“I did not only have the opportunity to be in Avicii’s amazing concert, but I also had the honor of presenting the MTV Chiuku to a celebrity who has been a real agent of change through his House of Hounger tour” commented Cader-Frech. “Avicii used his renowned name to raise funds for Feeding America, adding up to our list of celebrities who use their persona to help in charitable causes.”

“We were trying to find a good cause and came up with the House of Hunger Idea, to do a whole tour, raise a million dollars, to do something substantial” said Avicii. “It’s a rewarding experience; I think everyone should try it out. It opened my eyes with the problems out there.”

Some of the personalities who have been awarded with a MTV Chiuku in recognition of their humanitarian work are: Shakira, Juanes, Kelly Rowland, Nelly Furtado, Eva Longoria, Snoop Dogg, Fonseca, Morrissey, Fran Drescher, Calle 13, Kelly Osbourne, 50 Cent, Paulina Rubio, David Guetta, Kudai, Juan Pablo Montoya (Formula 1), Wyclef Jean, Fall Out Boy, Backstreet Boys, amongst others.
