Kate Nash, British singer, songwriter, and musician conducted a special workshop with inner-city youth on March 3, 2011, at the All Stars Project's performing arts and development center on W. 42nd Street. The workshop was part of an ongoing youth outreach initiative sponsored by Music Unites. Over 60 youth from inner-city communities throughout New York participated in the workshop by performing their own original songs and dialoguing with Kate Nash about how to develop their talents as performers, musicians, and songwriters. Kate Nash shared her life experiences as an artist and performed her hit song "I Hate Seagulls".
Kate Nash's debut album Made of Bricks was released in the UK in 2007 and in the US in early 2008. The album went platinum as she won The Brit for British Female Solo Artist, the NME Award for Best Solo Artist, and the Q Award for Breakthrough Artist. In early 2010, Kate released her second album, My Best Friend Is You, which included her second biggest hit on the charts to date Do-Wah-Doo.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the All Stars Project (ASP) is 100% privately-funded and creates afterschool programs for thousands of poor and minority young people, based on an innovative performance based approach. The ASP reaches 10,000 young people nationwide in New York City, Newark, NJ, Chicago, IL, and the San Francisco Bay Area and is headquartered on West 42nd Street in Manhattan.
