David Byrne and St. Vincent Play Costa Mesa's Segerstrom Center for the Arts, 10/12

Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honoree David Byrne and St. Vincent will play Segerstrom Center for the Arts October 12 at 8 p.m. in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall during the pair's highly anticipated fall tour to support their soon-to-be-released album, Love This Giant.

David Byrne & St. Vincent's album, Love This Giant, will be released worldwide September 11, 2012 by 4AD under exclusive license from Byrne's label Todo Mundo. Recorded over two years largely at Water Music in Hoboken, N.J., the album is a collaboration in the truest sense of the word, with Byrne and St. Vincent (a.k.a. Annie Clark) co-writing 10 of the album's 12 tracks, and each artist penning one song individually. "We'll be doing these songs and a bunch of songs that we suspect people will know, with a group that includes eight brass players, a keyboardist and a drummer," says Byrne of the upcoming tour.

"There was no delineating what the roles were," explains Clark of the recording. "It's a collaboration I'm truly proud of." The duo also split lyrical and vocal duties on the record, which despite eschewing a traditional guitar/bass/drums lineup in favor of idiosyncratic horn arrangements, presents itself as infectious and modern hook-laden rock.

Byrne and Clark met in 2009 at the Dark Was the Night benefit at Radio City Music Hall and were approached shortly after by the Housing Works Bookstore to collaborate on a night of music. They began composing remotely, trading song ideas and structures online while Clark toured and it quickly became apparent that they had more than just one night of music in them. Byrne performed witH Clark at her American Songbook show at Lincoln Center in 2010, and Clark contributed vocals to Byrne's Here Lies Love album, released the same year.

David Byrne was a founding member and principal songwriter of the American new wave band Talking Heads. He has collaborated with such noted artists as Brian Eno, choreographer Twyla Tharp for her ballet The Catherine Wheel and with Belgian choreographer Wim Vandekeybus's dance company Ultima Vez. His music has also been heard in numerous movie soundtracks, including Bernardo Bertolucci's The Last Emperor, True Stories, Something Wild with Celia Cruz and Young Adam. Byrne worked with Fatboy Slim on a disco opera titled Here Lies Love about the life of Imelda Marcos. In addition to his concert tours and contributions to five AIDS benefit compilation albums produced by the Red Hot Organization, he has his own Internet radio station, Radio David Byrne. Each month, Byrne posts a playlist of music he likes, linked by themes or genres.
