Chick Corea and Gary Burton Bring Hot House Tour to Philly, 11/9

Jazz legends, Chick Corea and Gary Burton, come to the Kimmel Center's Verizon Hall November 9, 2012 at 8 p.m. The Grammy winning duo will highlight music from their latest collaborative effort, Hot House, featuring the Harlem String Quartet.

Tickets are currently on sale at kimmelcenter.org, 215-893-1999, or at the Kimmel Center Box Office located on Broad and Spruce streets, Philadelphia, Pa. (open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., later on performance evenings). Tickets are available for $45-$65, plus applicable service charges.

Hot House is the seventh collaborative recording from Chick Corea and Gary Burton that explores classic American pop music and jazz modernism. The album features a wide range of new jazz interpretations of music by Kurt Weill,Thelonious Monk, Dave Brubeck, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and John Lennon and Paul McCartney, among others.

Eminent jazz keyboardist Chick Corea is one of the most influential jazz piano voices post John Coltrane era. A previous member of MiLes Davis' band in the 1960s, Corea has been compared to the likes of Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner and Keith Jarrett, and is known as a catalyst for exploring jazz music among a variety of different avenues. Notably, Corea is an individual with a distinctive and recognizable style on the electric jazz keyboard, as well as one of the foremost composers of jazz standards.

Gary Burton's storied career includes not only his work as a renowned Grammy-award winning vibraphonist, but also as a luminary in music education. He taught at the prominent Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass., where he was appointed Executive Vice President and was responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the college until 2003. Burton tours with multiple acts, and his dynamic and long-standing collaboration with Chick Corea is a main highlight of his career, including Grammy award winning albums, Native Sense (1997) and Like Minds (1998), an all star hit featuring frequent collaborators Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Roy Haynes, and Dave Holland, to name a few.

The Harlem String Quartet joins Corea and Burton for this performance following collaboration with the duo on Hot House tracks such as "Mozart Goes Dancing." The Quartet's mission is to advance diversity in classical music as well as engage young and new audiences through a diverse repertoire of works created my minority composers.
