Stan Getz, Chicago Jazz Orchestra,
Hear "The Sound" come alive once again in this intimate concert performed by members of the Chicago Jazz Orchestra (CJO). The performance features three of Chicago's most sought-after performers-Greg Fishman on saxophone, Eric Hochberg on bass, and Dennis Luxion on piano-paying tribute to the legendary Stan Getz. The concert is set for January 17 at 6:30 p.m. at The Richard H. Driehaus Museum, 40 E. Erie, Chicago. Museum Members $30; Public $40.
Nicknamed "The Sound," Getz was widely considered one of the all-time greatest tenor saxophonists in jazz history, and perhaps singularly popularized the bossa nova sound with his hit single "The Girl from Ipanema." This trio of CJO musicians brings Getz's extraordinary music to life, exploring all the genres and eras the artist enlivened throughout his career, from bebop to cool jazz, third stream, and bossa nova.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for guests who would like to explore the Museum and its collections prior to the start of the concert at 6:30 p.m.
The Chicago Jazz Orchestra (CJO) was founded in 1978 as the Jazz Members Big Band by Jeff Lindberg and the late Steve Jensen. Composed of Chicago's top musicians, the CJO is Chicago's oldest professional jazz orchestra in continuous operation and one of the oldest jazz orchestras in the country. Conductor and Artistic Director Jeff Lindberg is one of the foremost transcribers in jazz. As a result, the Orchestra's repertoire draws upon his vast library, which includes the works of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Benny Carter, Oliver Nelson, Ray Charles and many others.
The CJO is currently performing its 2012-2013 concert season, including performances with such solo artists as Michael Feinstein, Ernie Watts, Mark Wood, Randy Brecker and Kurt Elling. For more information about the CJO's season, visit www.chicagojazzorchestra.com.
