Cedille Records Announces Final Lineup of 2012 CD Releases

Cedille Records, the Grammy Award-winning, Chicago-based independent classical record label, has announced its CD release schedule for the remainder of 2012.

Mexican-born pianist Jorge Federico Osorio (www.jorgefedericoosorio.com) plays buried treasures from a bygone Romantic era on Salón Mexicano, to be released August 28. The CD includes 20 gems by Felipe Villanueva, Ricardo Castro, Manuel M. Ponce, and José Rolón -- Mexican composers who found inspiration in the virtuosic waltzes and mazurkas of European composer-pianists such as Chopin.

New-music sextet eighth blackbird (www.eighthblackbird.org), whose previous Cedille CD, Lonely Motel, won a 2012 Grammy Award, returns September 25 with Meanwhile, an album of recent works by contemporary composers Thomas Adès, Roshanne Etezady, Phillip Glass, Stephen Hartke, Phillipe Hurel, and Missy Mazzoli.

Also on September 25, violinist Jennifer Koh (jenniferkoh.com) will be heard on Bach & Beyond Part 1, the first CD installment of her innovative, three-part Bach & Beyond recital concert series. Koh plays J.S. Bach's Partitas Nos. 2 and 3 and Bach-inspired solo violin works by Mazzoli, Kaija Saariaho, and Eugène Ysaÿe.

Period-instrument ensemble Trio Settecento (www.triosettecento.com) concludes its acclaimed country-by-country CD tour of Baroque Europe on October 30 with An English Fancy. Violinist Rachel Barton Pine, violist da gamba John Mark Rozendaal, and harpsichordist David Schrader play works by Henry Butler, William Byrd, Tobias Hume, John Jenkins, William Lawes, Matthew Locke, Henry Purcell, and Christopher Simpson.

For the finale to Cedille's 2012 release schedule, the youthful Gaudete Brass quintet (www.gaudetebrass.com) makes its Cedille label debut November 13 with Chicago Moves. The album includes world-premiere recordings of brass quintets by Brian Baxter, John Cheetham, Rob Deemer, Stacy Garrop, David Sampson, and James Woodward. Also: Joan Tower's Copperwave, recorded for the first time in the traditional brass quintet scoring with tuba rather than bass trombone.
