Punk rock band Green Day recently announced that all concert dates for 2012 would be canceled in order that the band's 40-year-old lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong continue his recovery in rehab. Also postponed were all future appearances scheduled for January and February of 2013.
A statement issued by Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt read: "Obviously the timing for this isn't ideal, but Billie Joe's well-being is our main concern. We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank you all for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can't wait to see you all again soon."
The tour was originally set to kick off on September 26 in Seattle.
Yesterday, Armstrong offered the following update on his health condition as well as plans for the Green Day tour to resume in 2013:
I just wanted to thank you all for the love support you've showed for the past few months. Believe me, it has not gone unnoticed and I'm eternally grateful to have such an amazing set of Friends and family. I'm getting better everyday. So now, without further ado, the show must go on..We can't wait to get on the road and live out loud! Our passion has only grown stronger.
Happy new year
We love you all
