Barry Manilow, Joe Walsh and More Set for Wolf Trap, Now thru 8/19

Wolf Trap has announced the following events for this week, August 13-19:

Named one of Rolling Stone’s "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time," singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joe Walsh performs at Wolf Trap in support of his most recent solo album, Analog Man, which was released in June of 2012. Walsh’s musical journey highlights lead guitar gigs with various internationally renowned acts including The James Gang, Barnstorm, The Eagles, and Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band, as well as a thriving solo career that began in 1973. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 as a member of The Eagles. Walsh has also experienced continued success as a producer and sought-after session musician, and boasts performances with Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, David Grohl, and Bruce Springsteen.

Texan singer/songwriter Lyle Lovett and his Acoustic Group take the Wolf Trap stage for an evening of country, folk, pop, and rock fusion. His most recent album, Release Me (2012), is an eclectic compilation of covers of his favorite songs by other influential artists. Though typically identified as a country singer, Lovett stands out by incorporating a wide range of popular musical genres into his original compositions and interpretations. Lovett’s unique wit, lyricism, and outstanding musicianship have garnered him critical praise and growing appreciation from mainstream audiences. Since 1980, he has led a highly successful solo career – having recorded 13 albums and received four GRAMMY Awards.

GRAMMY Award-winning singer/songwriter John Prine returns to Wolf Trap after his last appearance in 2011. His latest album release, The Singing Mailman Delivers (2011), features Prine’s earliest studio and live recordings dating back to the beginning of his career in 1970. From his humble days working as a mailman to being discovered as a night performer in the Chicago club scene, John Prine remains true to his country and folk roots through the poetry in his compositions. Commonly referred to as a “songwriter’s songwriter,” Prine is vastly admired in the music industry for his eloquent writing and inspiring lyrics. Some of the prominent artists that have recorded his songs include Johnny Cash, Bonnie Raitt, The Everly Brothers, Kris Kristofferson, and Carly Simon, among others.

Versatile country singer Emmylou Harris performs at Wolf Trap for the second consecutive summer, following her latest appearance to promote her 2011 album, Hard Bargain. Harris’s career spans for over four decades and it highlights her unparalleled talents as a soloist, duet
partner, and backing vocalist. She lived and performed in New York City and Tennessee before relocating to the D.C. area, where she met mentor and country icon Gram Parsons, a vital influence in her development as an artist. Harris’s first solo debut, Pieces of the Sky (1975), is a collection of covers that brought her five hit singles in the country music charts. She also has collaborated with numerous well-known artists including Dolly Parton, Bob Dylan, Rodney Crowell, Little Feat, and Neil Young. Harris was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008. She has won 12 GRAMMY Awards and three Country Music Association Awards.
