Arun Shenoy Pledges Album Proceeds to Social Enterprise Milaap

Grammy nominated Singapore-based artist Arun Shenoy has announced that 100% of the proceeds from the sales of his album Rumbadoodle will go to Milaap.org, a Social enterprise which gives loans to the working poor in India. Rumbadoodle has been nominated for a Grammy award in the Best Pop Instrumental category. The Grammys will be announced at the event on 10 February 2013.

Arun Shenoy has been one of the earliest supporters of Milaap.org. The funds raised from album sales will help fund Education and vocational training for the under-privileged in India. Speaking about the gesture, Shenoy says, "Folks say the truth will set you free. We like to believe that Education will." A large percentage of youngsters in India are unemployed despite having a basic education. Milaap is seeking to help youngsters undergo vocational training and help them acquire skills that will make them ready for the job market.

Milaap.org differs from traditional charity in that it enables people around the world to make small loans, as little as $25 contributions to India's working poor. The funds enable access to basic needs like clean drinking water, sanitation, Education and vocational training. Since the funds raised are disbursed as loans, lenders get 100% of their money back.

Founded in June 2010, Milaap.org has raised around US$700,000 in loans and made a difference to over 14,000 lives across India. Over 800 households that were defecating in the open now have toilets at home. Nearly 400 households have access to clean drinking water. Milaap has helped around 225 students undergo skill training and secure jobs. Over 400 families have access to lighting at home and cleaner cooking alternatives. 1000 small business owners and artisans have able to set up and expand their businesses.
