Adele & Shirley Bassey Expected to Receive Post-Oscar Bump in Sales

Following their performances on last night's 85th Annual Academy Awards, Adele and Shirley Bassey are expected to receive a rather large bump in music sales, according to Billboard.

SKYFALL, which nabbed Adele her first Oscar, "see a 45% jump in digital download sales for the week ending Feb. 24. In the previous week, the single moved 36,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan," according to the report.

SKYFALL, is the first Bond theme ever to debut in Billboard's Top 10 and the first to be nominated for an Oscar since "For Your Eyes Only" in 1981.

Bond's night didn't end there, however. After the tribute to the franchise's 50th anniversary, Shirley Bassey took the stage and performed GOLDFINGER - her digital album sales are also expected to see a gain of up to 275%.

The success of Adele's albums has earned her numerous records in the Guinness Book of World Records. She became the first artist in history to lead the Billboard 200 concurrently with three Billboard Hot 100 number ones. Adele is also the first female artist to have three singles in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time, and the first female artist to have two albums, "19" and "21" in the top five of the Billboard 200 and two singles in the top five of the Billboard Hot 100 simultaneously.

Bassey is this year celebrating her very own "Diamond Jubilee" with a career spanning over six decades. She has recorded over 44 albums, sold over 135 million records and has sold out concert halls around the world. In June 2012, she was one of a number of esteemed artists, including Elton John, Paul McCartney and Annie Lennox, who performed at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Concert. In the United States, Bassey is best known for recording the theme songs for the James Bond films "Goldfinger," "Diamonds Are Forever" and "Moonraker."
